Express Shipping from China to Germany: Door to Door in 3 to 5 Days

Eva Solutions runs your express shipments from China to Germany — pickup at the manufacturer, export handling, and delivery to your address in three to five business days, via DHL Express, UPS, or FedEx.

  • Transit time: 3–5 business days from the factory to your address
  • Door to door through the major integrators — no airport handling to arrange, no last mile to organize
  • Worth it up to around 100 kg; above that, classic air freight costs less per kilogram
  • Billed by volumetric weight using a divisor of 5,000
  • We handle export clearance in China and import customs in Germany

When Does Express Shipping from China Pay Off?

Express is the fastest and, per kilogram, the most expensive way from China to Germany. It pays off whenever a lost day costs more than the freight.

  • Samples and first production runs

Sign off a product before production begins: two weeks waiting on a sample pushes the schedule back.

  • Spare parts

A machine is down. What counts is the cost of each idle day, not the freight rate.

  • Stockouts

Sold out, next sea shipment five weeks away: express bridges the gap until the container arrives.

  • Product launches and promotional dates

The first units must be on the shelf on the day; the rest can follow.

  • Documents and small parts

Certificates, originals, tooling or label samples that are holding up production or customs.

For predictable resupply in volume, express is almost always the wrong call. That is what air freight, rail, road and sea freight are for.

Express or Air Freight: Where the Difference Lies

Both travel by plane. The difference: express goes through the courier networks of the major integrators; air freight goes on cargo flights with a separate provider for each leg.

Why Express Beats Air Freight on Speed

The flight takes ten to fourteen hours either way. The difference of several days is made on the ground.

Classic air freight: collection at the manufacturer, consolidation in a warehouse, export clearance, handover to the airline, transfer at the destination airport, customs clearance, delivery — every step a separate provider with its own time slot. Express: the same chain inside one network. One provider collects, flies, clears, and delivers, on its own aircraft and through its own hubs.

That is why express is unforgiving about paperwork: there is no slack in the network to supply a missing invoice without missing a rotation.

Up to roughly 100 kilograms of volumetric weight, express usually wins, because there is no separate first and last mile to pay. Above that, the per-kilo rate for classic air freight drops well below express, and the extra coordination no longer matters.

Volumetric Weight in Express: Divisor 5,000, Not 6,000

You pay on the higher of actual weight and volumetric weight. Express uses a different divisor than classic air freight.

Length × Width × Height (cm) ÷ 5,000 = volumetric weight in kg

The smaller divisor gives a higher chargeable weight for the same carton: 60 × 40 × 40 cm comes to 19.2 kg in express, but only 16 kg in air freight at a divisor of 6,000.

  • Heavy, compact goods Actual weight governs; the divisor is irrelevant.
  • Light, bulky goods Express costs noticeably more than air freight — worth pricing both routes.
  • Packaging is price Before shipping, we check whether cartons can be combined or void space removed. On bulky goods this often cuts freight costs more than any rate negotiation.

The Limits of the Express Network

Express networks are built for parcels and pallets. Depending on the carrier, the limits sit roughly here.

  • approx. 70 kg

    Weight per piece

Heavier individual pieces are refused by the network.

  • 120–300 cm

    Length per piece

Depending on the carrier; above the standard size only on request.

  • approx. 330 cm

    Length plus girth

    Length + 2 × width + 2 × height.

Larger or heavier pieces travel as air freight, by road or in a container. The shipment may consist of many pieces: what counts is the single piece, not the total.

If your shipment runs up against these limits, we say so before booking and price both options, rather than have the goods turned back at the hub.

Dangerous Goods by Express: Batteries, Aerosols, Liquids

Anything that flies falls under dangerous goods rules, and express is air transport.

  • Lithium-ion batteries In electronics, e-bikes, power tools, and power banks. Class 9 dangerous goods; the rules differ depending on whether the battery is installed, packed with the equipment, or shipped on its own.
  • Aerosols and pressurized containers Spray cans, cleaning products, cosmetics.
  • Flammable liquids Paints, adhesives, solvents, perfume.
  • Magnets, powders, and chemicals These carry a separate air transport classification.

We settle the classification with your supplier before booking and have the goods packed, marked, and documented to spec. If the express network won't take the goods, we say so early and propose the overland route.

Customs on Express Shipments

With express, the most common cause of delay is customs, not the flight. There are two ways to handle it.

Clearance by the integrator

DHL Express, UPS, and FedEx clear customs themselves by default and invoice you for duty, import VAT, and a processing fee. Convenient, and good enough for occasional small shipments.

The limit: the broker picks the commodity code from your invoice details, without knowing your product. A vague description produces a vague classification — and you pay for it through the duty rate.

Clearance through our customs agents

On request, we take the shipment out of the standard process and have our customs agents file the declaration — under direct representation, in your name and on your account. We confirm the commodity code with you in advance and prepare the documents while the goods are still in the air; duty and tax are shown as separate items. This pays off when you import the same articles regularly: once the classification is settled, every future shipment goes through on it.

What you need

  • EORI number Required to import into the EU.
  • Documents Commercial invoice, packing list, and — depending on the product group — proof of origin and product documentation such as the CE declaration of conformity.
  • Duty rate Follows the commodity code in TARIC; between 0 and 12% for most product groups.
  • Anti-dumping duties For some categories, such as e-bikes, ceramic tiles, and steel products, they push the total rate well above that.
  • Import VAT 19%, calculated on the customs value plus duties plus the transport costs to the first place of destination in Germany.

A note on small shipments: understating the invoice value or declaring a commercial consignment as a gift is not a way to save money — in commercial imports it can be treated as duty evasion.

Costs: What Drives the Express Price

We price every shipment individually. These are the factors that decide it.

Volumetric weight
The higher of actual and volumetric weight counts (divisor 5,000). On bulky goods, this is the biggest lever.
Pickup location in China
Manufacturing regions around Shenzhen, Guangzhou or Shanghai cost less than inland, where the run to the nearest hub is longer.
Type of goods
Dangerous goods, temperature-sensitive products and heavily regulated categories need special classification, packaging and sometimes surcharges.
Delivery type in Germany
Standard delivery and delivery to a booked time slot differ in price and lead time.
Season
Volumes and rates climb ahead of Chinese New Year and Golden Week, and the factories stand still. If you know the date, move the shipment forward rather than paying for express later.
Fuel and security surcharges
The integrators apply variable surcharges that change monthly. We show them as separate line items, not buried in the per-kilo rate.

No flat rates: we price freight, surcharges, customs handling, and delivery separately and disclose every item.

Split Shipping: Urgent Units by Express, the Rest by Sea or Rail

An entire order rarely has to arrive fast. Usually a part of it will do.

We split the shipment. What is needed immediately — the first sales units, the sample awaiting sign-off, the parts for the trade fair booth — goes by express. The rest travels in parallel by sea or rail and arrives as the express stock runs down.

You pay the express price only for the quantity that is worth it and still hit the date. We plan the split with you based on sell-through rate and target date; both shipments run through the same contacts.

Process: How Your Express Shipment Works with Eva Solutions

  1. Inquiry and quote

You tell us the type of goods, dimensions, weight, pickup location, and target date. We calculate the volumetric weight, check the per-piece limits, and compare express with air freight.

  2. Pickup at the manufacturer

Our office in China collects the goods and checks count, dimensions, and packaging before the shipment enters the network.

  3. Paperwork and export handling

We draw up the commercial invoice and packing list with your supplier, settle the dangerous goods classification, and handle the export under our own export license.

  4. Handover and flight

Handover to DHL Express, UPS, or FedEx. You receive the tracking number.

  5. Import clearance

Clearance by us or by the integrator, as agreed up front. Where we file, the documents are ready before the aircraft lands.

  6. Delivery

Delivery to your address, for example your own warehouse.

Who Is Express Shipping from China For?

  • Importers in product development

Assess and release samples and pre-production runs before production begins.

  • Amazon sellers bridging a stockout

Keep a sold-out bestseller available until the container arrives.

  • Manufacturers and industrial buyers

Spare parts while a line is down.

  • Retailers working to seasonal and promotional dates

First batch on time, the rest follows.

  • Companies with urgent document needs

Certificates, originals, or test samples for authorities and customers.

Why Eva Solutions for Express Shipping?

  • Preparation on the ground, not rework at the hub

Our office in China checks dimensions, packaging and paperwork before handover — in an express network, any error at pickup costs days later.

  • We price express against air freight

We cost out both routes for your shipment and compare price against transit time. If air freight is the better option, we say so — even when you asked for express.

  • Customs through us if you want it

You decide whether the integrator clears the shipment or we do. For recurring articles we settle the commodity code once and every later shipment runs on it.

  • Native-language coordination with the factory

We settle invoice details, packing lists and dangerous goods data directly in Chinese with your supplier — most express problems start with an imprecise description of the goods.

  • A German company with a real contact person

An office in Waldrach, Germany (Naga Technologies GmbH) — also our contact and service address. You reach us during German business hours, and one named contact knows the status of your shipment.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does express shipping from China to Germany take?

Three to five business days from pickup at the manufacturer to delivery at your address. The flight itself accounts for ten to fourteen hours of that — the rest is pickup, export handling, hub transfer, and import clearance.

What does express shipping from China cost?

The price depends on volumetric weight, pickup location, type of goods, and delivery type, plus the integrators' variable fuel and security surcharges. Per kilogram, express is the most expensive way from China to Germany. We price every shipment individually and itemize all charges.

What is the difference between express and air freight?

Express runs door to door inside a single network: one provider collects, flies, clears, and delivers. Air freight runs airport to airport, with the first mile, last mile, and customs handling arranged separately. That makes express faster but more expensive per kilogram — and from around 100 kg the cost advantage swings to air freight.

How is volumetric weight calculated for express?

Length × width × height in centimeters divided by 5,000. You pay on the higher of actual weight and volumetric weight. Classic air freight uses a divisor of 6,000, so in express the same box comes out heavier on paper.

Up to what weight does express shipping make sense?

Up to around 100 kg of volumetric weight, express is usually both the faster and the cheaper option overall, because the first and last mile are included. Above that, classic air freight becomes markedly cheaper per kilogram.

Are there weight and size limits per piece?

Yes. Depending on the carrier, the limits sit at around 70 kg per piece, 120 to 300 cm in length, and a length-plus-girth of around 330 cm. The shipment as a whole may consist of many pieces — what counts is the individual piece.

Can batteries be shipped by express?

Within limits. Lithium-ion batteries are Class 9 dangerous goods, and the rules differ depending on whether the battery is installed in the equipment, packed with it, or shipped on its own. We settle the classification in advance and arrange compliant packaging and marking. Where the express network won't take the goods, road freight is usually the alternative.

Who handles customs clearance on express shipments?

Either the integrator or our customs agents, as you prefer. DHL Express, UPS, and FedEx clear customs themselves by default and invoice duty, import VAT, and a processing fee. Where we file, we confirm the commodity code with you in advance and prepare the documents while the goods are in the air — the declaration is made under direct representation, in your name and on your account.

What is the fastest way to ship goods from China to Germany?

Express: three to five business days from the factory to your address. Classic air freight takes five to ten days, rail 15 to 25, and sea freight 28 to 40. The only thing faster is a courier carrying the goods as carry-on — and that almost never adds up.

Do small shipments attract customs duty?

Yes. The former €150 duty-free threshold was abolished on July 1, 2026. Commercial consignments — including samples, first production runs, and spare parts — attract duty and import VAT from the first euro. The duty rate follows the commodity code in TARIC, and import VAT is 19%. The flat charge of €3 per goods category that has applied to low-value consignments since July 2026 covers B2C distance selling and does not generally apply to commercial import shipments.

Can I ship part of an order by express and the rest by sea?

Yes, and it is often the most economical solution. The urgent units go by express while the rest travels in parallel by sea or rail. That way you pay the express rate only for the quantity that has to hit the date.

Can Eva Solutions bundle goods from several suppliers into one express shipment?

Yes. We receive partial deliveries at our warehouse in China and hand them to the express network as a single shipment. With express this is particularly worthwhile, because you pay base charges and customs handling once instead of per supplier.

Is there shipment tracking?

Yes. You receive the integrator's tracking number and follow the shipment from pickup through to delivery. If customs raises a query, we reach out to you rather than waiting for the shipment to get held up.
