Repacking Service in China: Pack, Label, and Document Your Goods Properly

Eva Solutions repacks your goods at our own warehouse in China before they travel — seaworthy, optimized for volume, and carrying every marking the European market asks for.

  • Repacking at our own warehouse in China — before the transport leg, not after arrival
  • Tighter cartons cut freight volume, and freight volume is freight cost
  • Packed for the sea leg: protection against moisture and stacking loads, robust in handling
  • Labeling for the EU market: manufacturer details, EAN barcodes, origin, and carton labels
  • Neutral packaging, kitting, and packing lists on request

Why Factory Packaging Is Rarely the Right Packaging

Chinese manufacturers pack for the trip to the port, not for 28 to 40 days at sea, a European warehouse, and an end customer.

  • Too much air

Cartons are bigger than needed, half full, or standardized to the factory's format — you pay for that volume over the entire route.

  • Too weak for the journey

Single-wall board that gives way under stacking loads in the container, or goods with no moisture protection.

  • Marked wrongly or not at all

Chinese-language marking, no EAN barcode, no manufacturer details for the EU market.

  • No usable documentation

Packing lists do not match the invoice, net weights are missing, no way to tell which item sits in which carton.

Every one of these can be fixed in China for a fraction of the cost in Germany — some cannot be fixed afterward at all, because the goods have been cleared and paid for.

Saving Volume: Packaging Is Freight Cost

LCL sea freight, air freight and express are all billed by volume: every unnecessary centimeter of carton height gets paid for.

So before loading, we check:

  • Re-cartoning into sizes that fit Rather than the factory standard — two factory cartons often fit into one compact shipping carton.
  • Filling void space The goods do not settle and the carton stays stable under stacking loads.
  • Stripping outer packaging Where a second layer costs volume without protecting anything.
  • Palletizing to container dimensions So the floor space is genuinely used.

The effect is calculable: save two cubic meters on an LCL shipment and you save the freight on two cubic meters — again on every shipment that follows. With express the lever is stronger: volumetric weight is calculated with a divisor of 5,000, and bulky goods are disproportionately expensive.

Whether repacking pays off depends on how handling effort compares to the freight saved. We work it out for your shipment before we start.

Seaworthy Packaging: Moisture, Stacking Loads, Handling

A container is not a storeroom: for weeks, temperatures swing between the tropics and the North Atlantic, condensation drips from the ceiling, and the bottom cartons carry everything stacked above them.

  • Moisture protection

Desiccant bags, shrink wrapping, and for sensitive goods, protection against container sweat.

  • Heavy-duty board

Double-wall cartons wherever goods are stacked, with corner and edge protectors.

  • Unit loads

Strapping, stretch-wrapping and palletizing keep the shipment one unit during handling.

  • Handling marks

Orientation and caution symbols, stackability, and weight.

Wood Packaging and ISPM 15

Packaging made of solid wood — pallets, crates, boxes, dunnage — falls under the international plant health standard ISPM 15 on import into the EU: heat-treated or fumigated, and marked with the IPPC stamp.

If the marking is missing or faulty, the wood can be destroyed or treated at your expense. The shipment is held until it is resolved.

We check every shipment containing wood and swap out the load carriers if the marking is missing or faulty. Alternatively we use load carriers that need no treatment: plastic pallets, and pallets made exclusively of engineered wood such as pressed board, plywood, or OSB, fall outside the rules.

Labeling: What Belongs on the Product and on the Carton

Goods sold in Germany need more marking than a Chinese factory applies on its own. We apply it in China, where a label costs cents — not later in a German warehouse under time pressure before the sales launch.

  • Origin marking

There is no general obligation in Germany or the EU to state the country of manufacture for most product groups — food and certain textiles are among the exceptions. If you do state an origin, word it correctly: a false or misleading origin claim is a matter of competition law, not only of customs. We apply the marking where it is required or where you want it, matching the actual origin.

  • Manufacturer and responsible person details

Consumer products on the EU market must name the manufacturer and — for goods from outside the EU — the importer, with name, postal address and electronic address. These details belong on the product itself; only where that is technically impossible may the packaging or an accompanying document be used. As the importer, you often take on this role yourself. We apply the details directly in China.

  • Retail labels: EAN, SKU, variants

Barcode, SKU, size, color, language variants. We label to your artwork and spot-check the assignment — mislabeled variants otherwise come to light only at the customer's end.

  • Carton labels and packing lists

Every master carton carries a unique marking: contents, unit count, SKU, gross and net weight, dimensions. That produces the packing list matching the commercial invoice — the basis for customs declaration, goods receipt and any later claim.

Neutral Packaging: No Trace of Your Supplier

If you sell under your own brand, the packaging should give away nothing about where you source (industry term: blind shipping):

  • We strip manufacturer marks, factory stamps, and printed advertising from the master cartons and replace them with neutral marking or your own.
  • Paperwork: for delivery straight to your customer, we prepare the shipment so that neither your supplier nor your purchase prices are visible.

Kitting: Sets, Displays, and Retail-Ready Units

What goes to market as a single unit, we assemble at our warehouse:

  • Sets and bundles built from items that come from different factories
  • Retail-ready displays and floor stands
  • Leaflets, instruction manuals, and warranty cards in German
  • Accessories included — cables, spare parts, tools

That removes a step in Germany: the goods arrive at the warehouse in the condition they will be sold in.

Process: How the Repacking Service Works with Eva Solutions

  1. Samples and specifications

Your specifications: label artwork, carton sizes, set configurations, neutral packaging requirements. If it helps, we produce a sample first.

  2. Goods receipt and inspection

Receipt at the warehouse in China, quantity and condition checked against the order, discrepancies documented with photos.

  3. Calculating the saving and the cost

We calculate how much volume can be saved and what repacking costs — you decide what actually gets done.

  4. Repacking, labeling, kitting

Re-cartoning, labeling, sets and neutral packaging to your specifications, finished units documented with photos.

  5. Packing list and sign-off

Packing list showing which item sits in which carton, with weights and dimensions, plus photos for sign-off.

  6. Loading

Loading into the container, onto the aircraft or onto the truck — secured and sealed.

Costs: What Sets the Price

We bill for the work done, not a flat rate. What sets the price:

The number of line items and pieces
The biggest factor, because every unit gets handled.
The type of work
Re-cartoning, labeling, building sets, neutral packaging: time required differs substantially.
Packaging material
Board, film, desiccants, pallets.
Storage time
Before and after repacking.
Inspection scope
Spot check or 100% inspection.

Set against that: lower freight volume, no handling costs in Germany, and no rework before launch.

No flat rates: we price the repacking service separately from freight and storage and show exactly what each charge covers.

Why Eva Solutions for Repacking?

  • We repack in China, not in Germany

Repack after the transport leg and you have already paid for the surplus volume. We repack before loading, so the saving applies on the longest leg.

  • Our own warehouse and our own staff

Our own team works in our own warehouse, not a different contractor each time. We discuss your specifications in Chinese and answer questions the same day.

  • Photo documentation of every batch

You see the finished units before the container closes, and if there is a claim later, you have evidence of the condition the goods were loaded in.

  • Packaging and freight planning from one provider

We organize the transport as well, so we size the cartons to the container and the pallet, not the other way around.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does the repacking service in China cost?

We bill for the work done: number of pieces, type of work, materials, storage time, and inspection scope. We price per job and set the cost against the freight saved, so you can see whether repacking pays off for your shipment.

Is repacking worth it at all, or does it eat up the saving?

That depends on your goods. With compact, heavy goods there is little to gain. With bulky, lightweight goods — furniture, plastic articles, packaging material, textiles — the freight saved often exceeds the handling cost by a wide margin, and it does so again on every following shipment. We work it out in advance and advise against it when the numbers don't support it.

How much volume can typically be saved?

That depends on how the factory packed, and it can only be established honestly on the actual goods. So we measure when we receive the goods and show you the numbers rather than promising a percentage.

Can you pack the goods neutrally, with no reference to the manufacturer?

Yes. We strip manufacturer marks and factory stamps from the master cartons and replace them with neutral marking or your own. The shipping paperwork can be prepared the same way, so that neither the source nor your purchase prices are visible.

What is ISPM 15, and does it affect my shipment?

ISPM 15 is the international standard for wood packaging. Pallets, crates, and dunnage made of solid wood have to be treated and marked with the IPPC stamp, or the shipment can be held on import. It affects every shipment containing solid wood. Pressed-board and plastic pallets fall outside it.

What marking do my goods need for the German market?

That depends on the product group. As a rule it covers the origin statement, manufacturer and EU responsible person details, retail labels with EAN and SKU, and any product-specific marking. Which of these apply in your case is something we settle with you before labeling.

Can you enclose instruction manuals in German?

Yes. We enclose leaflets, manuals, warranty cards, and conformity documents to your artwork — printed in China or supplied by you.

Can you build sets from items made in different factories?

Yes. We take the part deliveries in at the warehouse and assemble them into retail-ready sets, bundles, or displays. This is the typical case when you buy from several manufacturers and sell the goods as one unit.

Do I get a packing list?

Yes. Every master carton is uniquely marked, and that produces a packing list with item assignment, unit counts, gross and net weights, and dimensions. It matches the commercial invoice and serves as the basis for the customs declaration and goods receipt.

How is this different from Amazon FBA preparation?

The repacking service prepares goods for transport and sale in general. FBA preparation additionally follows Amazon's requirements — FNSKU labels, carton labels, weight and size limits, shipping plan. We combine both in the same shipment where part of it goes to Amazon and part to your own warehouse.

Can I book the repacking service without shipping with you?

Yes, provided the goods reach our warehouse in China. Combining the two still makes sense: when we plan the transport as well, we size the cartons to the container and the pallet and actually realize the saving.
