What Is 3PL Fulfillment?
3PL stands for third-party logistics — outsourcing your logistics to an external provider. Instead of running warehousing, picking, shipping, and returns yourself, you hand these tasks to a specialized 3PL provider and focus on purchasing, marketing, and sales.
Unlike a pure freight forwarder, which handles only the transport, 3PL fulfillment covers the entire operational flow of goods: goods receipt, warehousing, pick & pack, shipping, returns management, and integration with your shop system.
1PL, 2PL, 3PL, and 4PL Compared
3PL is the first tier at which operational logistics is fully outsourced — with a focus on efficiency and scalability.
-
1PL — First-Party Logistics
You store, pack, and ship entirely yourself.
-
2PL — Second-Party Logistics
An external transport provider (forwarder, carrier) handles individual tasks such as delivery.
-
3PL — Third-Party Logistics
A partner handles warehousing, order processing, shipping, and returns — integrated with your shop and marketplaces.
-
4PL — Fourth-Party Logistics
Additionally, the strategic management of the entire supply chain and the coordination of multiple providers.
3PL from China to Germany: The End-to-End Model
Many 3PL providers start only at the German warehouse. Eva Solutions covers both ends of the chain — with our own office in China and a team in Germany.
-
Sourcing and Quality Control in China
Manufacturer search, supplier vetting, and quality control on site, before the goods leave the country — with photo and video documentation.
-
Consolidation and Export
Bundling of partial deliveries from several factories in our warehouse in China, export packaging, and shipping documents — one shipment instead of many individual parcels.
-
Freight and Customs Clearance
Shipping by sea freight, air freight, rail, or truck to Germany, including export and import handling.
-
Warehousing and Fulfillment in Germany
Storage, pick & pack, shipping to the end customer, and returns management — the goods are already in the country and therefore reach the customer quickly.
This creates a continuous supply chain without interface losses between sourcing agent, forwarder, and fulfillment warehouse.

Import and Customs: 3PL Across the EU Border
In cross-border fulfillment, the goods must be imported cleanly into the EU before the German warehouse is supplied.
- Customs Clearance Declaration of the goods on import into the EU, including tariff classification and import documents.
- EORI Number A prerequisite for every commercial import; we support registration and handling.
- Import VAT and Customs Duties Correct calculation and payment.
- DDP Delivery On request, duty-paid and taxed all the way to the German warehouse, so there are no surprises at the border.
Because the goods and customs are already handled on receipt in Germany, the later shipping to your customers runs as pure domestic shipping — fast and without renewed customs formalities.

Frequently Asked Questions
What does 3PL fulfillment mean?
3PL (third-party logistics) refers to outsourcing logistics to an external provider: warehousing, picking, shipping, and returns. Unlike a freight forwarder, which handles only the transport, 3PL covers the entire operational flow of goods — integrated with your shop.
What is the difference between 3PL and FBA?
FBA (Fulfillment by Amazon) handles orders through Amazon only. A 3PL provider serves all channels — your own shop, Amazon, eBay — from one warehouse. Both can be combined: 3PL for your own shop, FBA preparation for Amazon.
How does 3PL fulfillment from China to Germany work?
We source and check the goods in China, consolidate them, ship by sea, air, or rail freight, handle the import into the EU, and store them in Germany. From there, orders go to your customers as domestic shipping — all through one partner.
Who takes on customs and import VAT?
Eva Solutions handles the customs clearance on import into the EU, calculates customs duties and import VAT, and supports EORI registration. On request, we deliver duty-paid and taxed (DDP) all the way to the German warehouse.
Do I need an EORI number to import from China?
Yes. An EORI number is mandatory for every commercial import into the EU. We support you with the application if you don't have one yet.
Which shop systems can be integrated?
Direct integrations exist for Shopify, WooCommerce, and Amazon, with further platforms via REST API. Orders, stock levels, and tracking data are synchronized automatically.
Are there minimum quantities?
We work with companies of varying sizes. Get in touch — we'll find a solution that fits your volume and grows with it.
What does 3PL fulfillment cost?
The cost is made up of storage fees, pick & pack, shipping, and import and customs costs. There are no flat rates — we prepare a transparent calculation based on your actual quantities.
Can I combine 3PL with my own warehousing?
Yes. Many retailers store part of their range themselves and outsource peaks or individual product groups to 3PL. We agree the split with you individually.
Ready for predictable fulfillment from China?
Send us your volume and channels — we'll prepare a transparent 3PL calculation and a clear process plan.
